Dear Callison Families,
"It's a great day to be a Cougar!" WELCOME to the 2022-2023 school year. We are so excited to invite our Cougar Cubs back to school and into our classrooms! Training on digital tools, standards-based curriculum, virtual platforms, social-emotional learning and much more have been provided to teachers. Thirty years later, the Callison mission still stands firm: to provide excellence in education.
The year 2020 was supposed to be a year of clear vision; yet, no one could have foreseen what it would become. Please believe that none of our staff chose a career in education expecting to teach remotely and not in person. The end of last year was not truly "Distance Learning". We now know we were engaged in "Crisis Schooling". There was no time for preparation for our staff, students, and families. We were like the children's story The Three Little Pigs, attempting to build a new school house out of straw, sticks, or bricks hoping that the foundation instilled in students would stand against the COVID storm. We all did the best that we under the circumstances during the closure but, now we are prepared to do so much better!
Our school goal this year is to provide students with a quality education, whether in-person or from a distance. Per California Senate Bill No.98, under the newly created Ed Code 43503, Callison teachers will facilitate "live online teaching daily". Our staff will determine what students know in order to build upon this, with a focus on essential standards. Success for all will remain the cornerstone of our Cougars Cubs.
As you know, quality education is much more than the simple learning of facts. Besides teaching and learning, we will continue our goal of preparing the whole child--mind, body, and soul. We are excited to continue to focus on Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) with Cougar Kick Off (CKO) Week Distance Learning Edition. Annual CKO Week is dedicated time to teaching school-wide behavior expectations. This year, we will promote citizenship and how to maintain great Cougar Character. We will host raffles, morning announcements, spirit weeks, field trips, and school-wide assemblies. We are partnering with our Parent Teacher Club to continue to host various social events such as movie night and dance-a-thon. We will be launching our student store: Callison Prime. Our goals are to continue to promote socialization and to build community and relationships in order to ensure that the social emotional needs of our students and staff are met.
This school year, more than ever, we are counting on your partnership as we focus on growing the whole child in mind, body, and soul. With all hands on deck, we can and we will be PAWsome! Welcome to the new school year. Go Cougars!
